Throughout this semester, I’ve written multiple essays.My writing skills has improved a lot With Metenko’s feedback I’ve been able to improved my writings.This class has helped be a good critique to my peers work through peer reviews.I’ve written a Narrative essay, Critical analysis essay, Exploratory essay, which I had to work with a partner and now a self assessment essay.Through out my journey of writing these essays, I’ve had my ups and downs, and I’ve learned a few things in this composition class thanks to Msr.Metenko.

Our first assignment was the narrative essay. we had to write about a loss that has happened to us and what we got from that situation.I was an ESL student which means Spanish is my first language.Thinking about what to write was easy to me, but I struggled with my grammar.As you can see, I made a lot of mistakes while writing this essay. I’ve repeated words too often, my sentence structure wasn’t on point, and some of that some of my ideas lacked clarity and focus. additionally, I struggled with organizing my thoughts effectively and ensuring smooth transitions between my paragraphs.

Our second assignment was an exploratory essay. We had to teach an audience about a topic and show evidence and opinion from both sides.Msr Metenko took the class to the Library were he showed us how to use CUNY’s library database, which we had to use to be able to write our exploratory essay.Eventually I learned how to use that tool.Learning MLA format was an important part of my writing skill. I learned the basics such as, how to properly format In-text citations and create a work cited page, through that class Metenko taught us in the library. This helped my essay feel more professional And insured I gave credit to the authors of the sources I used.

For our last assignment , we wrote a critical research essay, in which we analyzed one of  the stories we had studied and support our analysis with scholarly evidence.I wrote my essay on “A Good Man is Hard to Find”.I used G.D Peter’s book “Killer stories “ as my supplementary article. During the process of writing this essay. I participated in a peer review session with three of my classmates. And their feedback was incredibly helpful. In improving my work. Initially, I didn’t include  quotes from the text and my writing a lot organization. Unfortunately, I misplaced my feedback paper. So I am unable to refer back to it. However, their insight. Help me make. Significant improvement to my essay.

Through this composition class, I have not only developed a deeper understanding of literature but also refined my skills as a writer. Analyzing works like Flannery O’Connor’s “A Good Man is Hard to Find”and Stephen C. Bandy’s essay “One of My Babies” has taught me how to craft persuasive arguments, critically engage with texts, and articulate complex ideas clearly. This experience has been incredibly rewarding, as it pushed me to think critically, organize my thoughts effectively, and express my ideas with confidence. Ultimately, this class has not only strengthened my writing but also instilled a greater appreciation for the power of thoughtful analysis and communication.
